Born and raised in Ithaca, New York, Rebecca Mapes has always had a penchant for the pure and calm forms found in nature.
While studying painting at New York’s Pratt Institute, Mapes enrolled in her first jewelry class as a sculpture credit. The craft’s meticulous practice appealed to her inclination for perfectionism, and her career in jewelry began. Upon graduation Mapes interned at jewelry label’s Pamela Love and In God we Trust, taking a job at the latter immediately after graduation. Three years later in 2013, Mapes launched Winden. Named for her grandparent’s farm, the label combines Mapes’ love for the organic shapes of plants, flowers, stones, shells, and animals with nostalgia o f the past.
